Waltham, MA. — ECA Solar, a community solar developer with a growing portfolio across Maryland and the broader Mid Atlantic region, has completed construction on its 3 MW community solar project in Dorchester County. The project expands access to clean, affordable electricity through the Maryland Community Solar Program and supports the state’s broader transition toward locally generated renewable energy.

The Dorchester County community solar project was developed on approximately 5.85 acres of industrially zoned land and was specifically selected to support responsible Maryland community solar development while minimizing environmental impact. Once fully operational, the Maryland community solar system is expected to generate approximately 3.4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, providing the equivalent energy needs of hundreds of Maryland homes.

As part of the Maryland Community Solar Program, the project will deliver direct economic and energy benefits to local residents. Forty percent of the project’s capacity is reserved for income qualified Delmarva Power customers, helping expand participation in Maryland community solar and ensuring that the benefits of clean energy are accessible to a broader range of households.

The site presented an ideal opportunity for Maryland community solar development due to its industrial zoning designation, proximity to existing Delmarva Power electrical infrastructure, and natural tree screening. The project required no tree clearing or wetland disturbance and received unanimous approval from Dorchester County’s Board of Appeals and Planning Commission, demonstrating strong local support for community solar in Maryland.

The completion of construction on the Hurlock project represents another milestone in ECA Solar’s growing Maryland community solar portfolio and reinforces the company’s continued investment in expanding community solar throughout the state. In addition to the Hurlock project, ECA Solar has over 21 MWDC of fully permitted Maryland community solar projects in its development pipeline, further demonstrating its long-term commitment to delivering clean, locally generated energy across Maryland.
